HG are recruiting for a Head of Engineering in the automotive sector. Responsible for controlling all of the engineering resources in order to ensure the provision of sufficient vehicles to the required standard of reliability, presentation and condition for the operational requirements of the business.

A Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Public Transport environment i.e buses/coaches is imperative

Their excellent quality and service is maintained with a modern fleet of 130 vehicles operating from 3 depots in Manchester, Runcorn and Wirral backed by 270 experienced staff dedicated to the safety and comfort of their customers.

 

The Role:

  • Manage staff planning, including recruitment and retention of engineers, as well as preparing for the future, overseeing the recruitment and development of apprentices.
  • Overseeing performance management and ensuring that engineers at all sites are fully trained in relation to vehicle compliance.
  • Ensure that all staff that you are responsible for fully understand and comply with company and statutory requirements in terms of Health and Safety and operating procedures.
  • To ensure that the Company’s vehicle requirements are achieved on a daily basis and ensure that all vehicles supplied for service are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Ensure the streamlining of systems and processes with the introduction of software.
  • Responsible for ensuring the performance of the engineering department achieves the required levels of customer satisfaction in line with evaluation tables and customer requirements.
  • Working with the Head of Service Delivery to deal with maintenance, health and safety, environmental and ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Reduce waste and improve efficiency wherever possible.
  • Effective and efficient administration and record keeping is an essential part of this role.
  • Liaise with National Express vehicle control which includes dealing with audits and management reports.
  • Analyse, monitor and manage the quality and performance workshop indicators (KPI) to be reported into the Board/management team on a weekly basis.
  • Recording all paperwork for compliance to VOSA standards.
  • Signing off payroll for all depots.
  • Budget spend responsibility to include managing costs to agreed budgets, labour costs and controlling parts spend.

 

The Person:

  • Previous experience in the bus and coach sector is essential.
  • NVQ3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
  • A proven track record of supervisory management, the ability to motivate others and a customer care attitude to problem solving.
  • PCV and car licence essential
  • A flexible approach to working times and shift patterns is required to reflect the varying needs of this challenging role
